Bakersfield, California hair transplant clinic of US Hair Restoration is soon to start its activity at the city of Bakersfield in California. Previously in this blog we went over the article “Surgeon Restores Patients’ Hair, Self-Confidence” that was recently published in the the Beverly Hills Courier. In the article Dr. Parsa Mohebi, medical director of US Hair Restoration discusses the modern hair transplant techniques and the innovation that makes a perfectly hair restoration with natural results possible.

Later on US Hair Restoration announced opening of its hair restoration clinic in the city of Bakersfield, CA to serve the Southern California particularly northern cities of Los Angeles such as Sacromento and Fresno and north of San Fernando Valley. US Hair Restoration hair transplant clinics are also accessible and being used by the residents of Las Vegas, Nevada and Phoenix, Arizona.

From Beverly Hills Courier magazine:

We all know that nothing looks better than a full head of hair, and one of the best people to provide it is Dr. Parsa Mohebi, medical director of US Hair Restoration.

Dr. Mohebi specializes in several hair-transplant procedures:

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) is the gold standard of hair-transplant surgery, Mohebi said, giving very natural results. A strip of donor scalp is removed and the follicles are prepared under microscopes and distributed in the bald area in the natural direction and orientation.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), also called non-invasive hair-restoration surgery, uses special biopsy devices to extract individual follicular units without having to remove a strip of skin; so there is no linear scar.

“Not everyone needs FUE or follicular unit extractions hair transplant” Mohebi says. “But people who want to shave their head in the future for any reason may consider FUE because there is no visible evidence of surgery on the back of their head. There’s nothing to suture, and the small dot wounds are not detectable a few days after surgery”.

Dr. Mohebi also specializes in eyebrow transplants for both men and women.

As testament to his skills, he also repairs bad or “pluggy” transplants, performed by other doctors. “We do several repair hair transplant surgeries a month,” he says.

A variety of skin rejuvenation and beautification are also offered at the offices of US Hair Restoration.

Dr. Parsa Mohebi spends an hour with each new patient and does a microscopic evaluation of the scalp and a miniaturization study of the hair to predict future hair loss. “That way we’re not limited to the obviously bald areas, but we can transplant hair to where the patient may lose hair in the future. With the technology we have now, there’s no reason for anyone to experience hair loss.”

As a hair specialist a fellowship-trained hair-transplant surgeon, Dr. Mohebi continues research the latest high-transplant techniques and his writings have been presented and published in both national and international medical-society publications.

The above mentioned hair transplant article continues with discussing the published research on the psychology of hair transplant in men, which was finished last year: Dr. Mohebi’s latest article was the cover story for Hair Transplant Forum International, considered the most important journal in the field of hair restoration, on The Psychology of Hair Transplants. From research in Europe, we know that people with hair loss are prone to anxiety, depression and other psychological problems; we tried to see if we can reverse that with hair restoration surgery.

He evaluated 200 patients after surgery in eight criteria, and saw improvements with FUT in terms of happiness, youthfulness, energy levels, self-esteem and self confidence, future outlook and impact on their career and sex life. The results were amazing and improvements in all eight criteria were statistically significant. The authors, Dr. Mohebi and Dr. Rassman concluded that using the new techniques of hair restoration patient can drastically improve all of the psycho-social impacts of hair loss.

The reporter then set aside US Hair restoration from many other hair transplant clinics by several factors by referring to Dr. Mohebi’s comments on following the latest standards of hair restoration surgery and the fact that things have changed significantly recently in the field of hair restoration. What was done five years ago is not acceptable today. We have the most experienced technicians; and everything is done under a microscope to get the highest yield of hair.

Then there’s the customer service. “The day of the hair restoration procedure is a big day for patients,” Mohebi said, “often six to eight hours. Patients are usually amazed at how smooth and pleasant the day is.

Patients are given mild to moderate sedation and numbing medication for the donor and recipient area. Once the scalp is numb the strip of skin is removed and the wound is closed. The next step is to prepare hair grafts under microscope. While grafts are being made by experienced technicians of US Hair Restoration, Dr. Mohebi is designing the hair line and makes the sites according to the natural direction and distribution of hairs.

Since the newly placed follicles are so fragile, patients return the next day to get their hair washed professionally, given special shampoo and taught how to take care of their hair at home. “After five days, no special care is needed,” Mohebi said.

Ten days after the surgery, patients return to have the donor site checked and staples removed for those who had them. Hair starts growing after three months, and is long enough to style and comb after ten to twelve months. The third follow up is at 10 months after the procedure.

Severe baldness may require more than one surgery, usually spaced at least six months apart. “With megasession hair transplants we can do 4,000 grafts in one day. That significant number is a help to patients with a high class of baldness. We can get a higher stage of restoration with fewer sessions of transplants.”

Continuing to pioneer in the field, Dr. Mohebi is the inventor of the Laxometer, a device to measure the laxity or mobility of the scalp. Laxity of the scalp is key in determining the size of the donor strip so that enough can be removed for bigger cases, and the wound can be closed without too much tension and the scaring will be minimal.

US Hair Restoration has Southern California Clinics at Encino, California, Orange County, Beverly Hills and now Bakersfield. US Hair Restoration also offers hair transplant services in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

To help people stay abreast of all that’s happening the field of hair restoration, and to answer questions (he’s heard from Europe and China) Dr. Mohebi maintains hair restoration blog and Los Angeles hair trnsplant blog that is dedicated to answer your hair loss and hair transplant questions.

Here is another question on female hair loss. Women hair loss is a common question in our Los Angeles hair transplant and Orange County hair restoration clinics. Here is another hair loss question on alopecia areata during pregnancy. One of my patients from our Los Angeles – Orange County hair transplant said that she was diagnosed with Alopecia and lost pretty much all of her hair during pregnancy. Her son is now 5 months old and her hair has grown back. All but one spot. She said that she could hide the balding spot, but I would love for one day not to have to hide it.
This women with female hair loss has experienced extensive alopecia areata, but she got her hair back after only a few months. This is a pretty good recovery for a condition that could have lead to a much worse outcome. My suggestion to this patient was to be patient and to hang in there. It is very likely that this patient can grow the rest of her hair back without any hair loss treatment. If her hair loss was due to alopecia areata, a hair transplant cannot help her balding condition. However, she would need to be seen and examined by a hair specialist to confirm the diagnosis of her hair loss condition properly.
Many women after pregnancy lose hair due to a condition called telogen effluvium that should not be mistaken with other hair loss disorders. Telogen effluvium is a common cause of hair loss in women after delivery of a baby or some other conditions. Telogen effluvium difinitely does not need hair transplantation and patient need to wait and watch the slow growth of her hair.

Another article on hair cloning (multiplication) was just got published titled “Formation of Hair Structures Suitable for Implantation”. Intercytex was in charge of this study as the other series of hair multiplication of hair cloning studies. Hair multiplication, also known as hair multiplication, has been discussed in hair restoration blog in many posts and has been the subject of many studies in the past. Intercytex is one of the companies that have been reporting some progress in different levels of the study and have reported that they have finished phase II and are starting phase III of this study.

This hair restoration research has shown that hair cloning by culturing hair cells has been successful in animals and it is now being studied on humans. The following article tries to elucidate the process of hair multiplication on laboratory animals that were released.

The goal of this hair multiplication study was “to develop a construct through which implanted follicular cells will efficiently cause hair regeneration for the treatment of androgenetic alopecia.” They used follicular dermal and epidermal cells isolated from embryonic mouse skin which were formed into aggregates.

The cellular aggregates were kept and incubated in lab in culture for five to seven days and then implanted inside the skin into athymic mice, which does not have the capability of rejecting foreign tissue. They observed that during culturing, mixed cell aggregates developed into hair-like structures, termed “proto-hairs.” Proto-hairs contained structures that resembled normal hair components, such as dermal papillae, hair matrix and rudimentary hair shafts.

They implanted into mouse skin, they developed further into mature hair follicles capable of prolonged growth. The authors concluded that mixed aggregates of murine follicular cells have the ability to develop while in culture into proto-hairs that retains the ability to fully develop into hair follicles after implantation.

Proto-hairs from human hair stem cells could provide a convenient and practical means by which follicular cells could be implanted for efficient hair regeneration to treat hair loss. Although the study does not add to what we knew before, it elucidates the process of work for the other scientists who follow on the progress of hair multiplication (cloning) research.

US Hair Restoration California Offices (818-788-8363) are involved and follow the progress of hair multiplication studies precisely. USHR is also involved in some hair multiplication studies. The results will be released and published in medical literature when they are available.

Demand for hair restoration as the ultimate treatment of hair loss in men and women the great need for high quality hair transplant surgeries attracts the best hair transplant surgeons to Los Angeles and Beverly Hills area.

US Hair Restoration started the first branch of the US Hair Restoration in Encino, Los Angeles, California. The central location of our main hair transplant clinic makes it accessible from many different areas including Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, downtown LA, Glendale, and most areas of San Fernando Valley. I did not believe that a hair transplant surgeon should be in Beverly Hills to be able to provide high quality cosmetic surgeries until a few months after starting US Hair Restoration first branch, the volume of inquiries from Beverly Hills patients forced me establish our Beverly Hills hair transplant center in the heart of Beverly Hills just a few months after starting our Encino Hair restoration clinic in San Fernando Valley.

Are all Beverly Hills hair transplant surgeons capable of providing high quality hair restoration procedures? I guess we all know the answer to this question. In fact, Beverly Hills, like any other high end cities, attracts a mixed crowd of both “good and bad” specialists. Truth is some mediocre hair transplant surgeons only established their hair restoration clinics in Beverly Hills for financial gain from the patients who don’t have time to do their homework before choosing their hair transplant surgeon.

Hair restoration surgery is considered a permanent procedure and either have a good hair transplant or a bad one, its results stay with you for the rest of your life. As much as a good hair transplant can remove years from your face and restore the beauty of it, a bad hair transplant looks unnatural and stands out as unreal. I do a few hair transplant repaires every month for hair transplants that are done with the old techniques that were once considered the standard of care. What’s more disappointing is some of those hair transplants are done only recently and by hair transplant surgeons that could not adapt to the new techniques of hair transplant surgery. I have seen micro-graft hair transplants done only one or two years ago which means there are some doctors out there that resist or are unable to learn the new techniques of hair restoration. Those procedures leave patients with unnatural looking hair and forces them to get another surgery to correct the pluggy appearance.

Having said that, having an old and unnatural hair transplant surgery is not the end of the world and if your donor area was not violated , your hair can be easily repaired, thanks to the new high quality hair restoration procedures using follicular unit hair transplant. The procedure needs to be done artistically by a good hair transplant surgeon.

Here is another question that is answered by Dr. Parsa Mohebi, a Beverly Hills hair transplant surgeon. A 27 year old patient asked about an atypical hair loss. The patient said: I am suffering from scarring alopecia from last 10 years. Initially I have 4-5 very small patches, but now they have increased slowly, these patches are very smooth and of red color. I never feel and pain, burn or sever itching on my scalp, but many times I feel sensation under my scalp area and on my face, it is just like something is moving.

Patient has taken lots of treatments Dermatology, homeopathy, and Indian traditional treatments, but none of these have worked for her.

Scarring alopecia (Cicatricial Alopecia or CC) is applied to a wide range of skin disorders. An inflammatory condition is usually present that causes destruction of the hair follicles. Biopsy of the scalp is generally needed to establish the diagnosis. Treatment options are different based on the exact microscopic diagnosis. In many cases the treatment of cicatricial alopecia is difficult and a complete recovery may not be achievable with medical treatments.

Some hair transplant surgeons has tried hair transplant for the treatment of cicatricial alopecia for those who have a healthy donor hair with limited success. In some cases the process of the disease may flare up and stimulate losing patient’s original hair along with the transplanted ones. I usually obtain a scalp biopsy from patients who have atypical patterns of baldness to role our cicatricial alopecia before planning for a hair restoration surgery in our Beverly Hills and Los Angeles Hair Restoration Centers.

This Beverly Hills hair transplant surgeon has recommended fining a good dermatologist and stick with his or her plan. You need to understand that the treatment of cicatricial alopecia might be long and a complete recovery might not be achievable in many patients.

I am 27 years old and I have some hair falling problem, I lost sixty percent of hair in a period of last three to four years. I don’t live in United States. I heard about your treatment for baldness; I am interested in hair transplantation. I had gone through the details through internet, Can you provide more details about the hair restoration in Los Angeles hair transplant clinics of US Hair Restoration.

I am just wondering if you can answer to the following questions. What is the percentage guaranteed for the transplantation? What are the side effects of hair transplant surgery? Can I do the treatment in India or Dubai? How is the treatment period? What are the pre and post procedures of treatment like and how to care of transplanted hair? How is the treatment done? What about the price for the transplanting (What is hair transplant costs)? How is the growth of hair after transplanting? Is it going to be Gradual, Immediate?

With regards

Below are the answers to this patient’s questions.

· What is the percentage guaranteed for the transplantation?
If diagnosis is done correctly with expert eyes, it should be 95-99% successful.

· What are the side effects of hair transplant surgery?
One side effect is a linear scar on the back. Also there will be some swelling and redness on forehead for a few days after surgery and possibility of some numbness at or around donor and recipient area. For more information on the side effects you see donor scar complication post in Hair Restoration Blog.

· Can I do the treatment in India or Dubai?
We are in process of having regular visits to Dubai, but we don’t have a certain day yet. Please check with our office within the next few months for the schedule of our Dubai, UAE hair transplant clinic. However, if you are willing to travel to get your hair restoration surgery done in our Los Angeles hair transplant clinic or Beverly Hills Hair Restoration office, we do have a special program for the patients from other countries in which they can get up to 10% off the cost of their hair restoration procedure toward their traveling expenses.

· How is the treatment period, what are the pre and post procedures of treatment and how is the treatment done?
Please see our website to get more information of hair transplant surgery with follicular unit transplant method. You can also see some before and after hair transplant pictures there.

· What about the price for the transplanting
Check the website of US Hair Restoration for cost of hair transplant surgery.

· How is the growth of hair after transplanting? Gradual, Immediate……
It usually takes 3 months to see any growth, and then it will get better and better until 1 year post surgery.

It’s been just over 4 weeks since I had my hair transplant procedure. I still have a few scabs. It just happened that while shampooing my hair, I ended up accidentally removing a scab and the area underneath the scab appeared red. The area that has gone red, I could not say for sure if there was any bleeding as I would have been washing it at the time with shampoo. Did I lose any graft? It has been four weeks post op and I am not sure when I can get to my normal hair wash and I really don’t want to compromise with the results.

Here is Dr. Mohebi’s answer to this post hair transplant care question:

Transplanted hair is very vulnerable in the first 4 days after hair restoration surgery. The most important day is the first day after hair transplant surgery in which I would like to bring patients back to wash their hair professionally. You can read more on Dos and Don’ts after hair transplant surgery in our web blog.

Washing after hair transplant surgery should be done meticulously, but after day 4 following a hair restoration surgery, transplanted hair follicles become part of your skin and you cannot dislodge them even if you remove hair. I usually recommend that my patients follow our washing and after hair transplant care directions on the first four days to minimize scabbing after hair transplant and don’t use any other products.

The visits for washing hair are included in the cost of hair transplant surgery in our Southern California hair transplant surgery center.

In your case at four weeks after hair transplant, there is not risk of losing any grafts and you should have been able to wash your hair in your routine long ago. At this time, you can use your regular shampoo and conditioner without being worried about losing your precious implanted hair grafts.

Dr. Parsa Mohebi, the medical director of US Hair Restoration stated that with the new techniques of hair restoration, creating totally undetectable results is easily obtainable. US Hair Restoration is located at Los Angeles, California, but it is also considered a national hair transplant service by accepting patient’s from other major cities including Manhattan, New York, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco San Diego and many other metropolitan areas.

Below is a summary of the article in which psychological impacts of hair restoration on men was discussed in more details. Some of the new methods for hair transplants were also explored. Many of these techniques are used for celebrity hair transplants in Beverly Hills and Hollywood.

The article said that it is obvious that nothing looks better than a full head of hair, and one of the best people to provide it is Dr. Parsa Mohebi, medical director of US Hair Restoration.

Mohebi specializes in several hair transplantation methods:

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) which is known as the gold standard of hair-transplant surgery, Mohebi said, giving very natural results. A strip of donor scalp skin is removed and the follicles are harvested under microscopes and distributed in the bald area in the natural direction and orientation.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), also called non-invasive hair-restoration surgery, uses special biopsy devices to extract individual follicular units without having to remove a strip of skin; so there is no linear scar.

Mohebi also specializes in eyebrow transplants for both men and women.

As testament to his skills, he also repairs bad or “pluggy” transplants, performed by other doctors. “We do several repair hair transplant surgeries a month,” he says.

Dr. Mohebi, Los Angeles hair transplant doctor spends an hour with each new patient and does a microscopic evaluation of the scalp so called miniaturization study on every one to predict the hair loss. “That way we’re not limited to the obviously bald areas, but we can transplant hair to where the patient may lose hair in the future. With the technology we have now, there’s no reason for anyone to experience hair loss.”

As a fellowship-trained hair-transplant surgeon, Dr. Parsa Mohebi continues research the latest high-transplant techniques and his articles have been presented and published in both national and international medical-society publications.

The article continues with discussing the published research on the psychology of hair transplant in men, which was finished last year: Dr.

Los Angeles hair transplant doctor, Dr. Mohebi evaluated 200 patients after surgery in eight criteria, and saw improvements with FUT in terms of happiness, youthfulness, energy levels, self-esteem and self confidence, future outlook and impact on their career and sex life. The results were amazing and improvements in all eight criteria were statistically significant. The authors, Dr. Mohebi and Dr. Rassman concluded that using the new techniques of hair restoration patient can drastically improve all of the psycho-social impacts of hair loss.

The reporter then set aside US Hair restoration and Dr. Mohebi from many other major Los Angeles hair transplant clinics and LA and Beverly Hills hair transplant surgeons by several factors such as following the latest standards of hair restoration surgery in the rapidly progressing field of hair restoration surgery. What was done five years ago is not acceptable today. We have the most experienced technicians; and everything is done under microscopes to get the highest yield of hair.

Then there’s the customer service. “The day of the hair transplant procedurs is a big day for patients,” Mohebi said, “often six to eight hours. Patients are usually amazed at how smooth and pleasant the day is. For US Hair Restoration every hair transplants are celebrity hair transplants.

The affordable hair transplant surgery at US Hair Restoration has made it possible to get inexpensive hair transplant in Los Angeles with the highest quality.

Since the newly placed follicles are so fragile, patients return the next day to get their hair washed professionally at one of the California hair transplant offices, given special shampoo and taught how to take care of their hair at home. “After five days, no special care is needed,” Mohebi said.

At ten days after the surgery, patients return to have the donor site checked and staples removed for those who had them. Hair starts growing after three months, and is long enough to style and comb after ten to twelve months. The third follow up visit is at eight to ten months after the procedure.

Severe baldness may require more than one surgery, generally spaced at least six months apart. “With megasession hair transplants we can do 4,000 grafts in one day, which includes around 8000 hair follicles. That significant number is a great help to patients with a high class of baldness.

To help people stay abreast of all that’s happening the field of hair restoration, and to answer questions (he’s heard from Europe and China) Dr. Mohebi maintains a hair restoration blog. He is recommended in many online communities as a superb hair transplant doctor in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles.

One of the major groups that are currently working on hair cloning is Intercytex that has recently released a research result on the hair multiplication experiments in the journal of experimental dermatology.

The question is “when will hair cloning be available”. The article goes over what has been done so far for hair multiplication experimentally. Intercytex group has been involved and developed some hair stem cell, hair culturing and hair multiplication projects. Some of those methods could be used for the treatment of hair loss. Some of those known as hair cloning are also being done by other organizations or universities.

Hair cell multiplication can be a revolution in hair transplant surgery field. Follicular cell implantation in this article is reviewed and mentioned as an experimental cell therapy for the treatment of hair loss that uses cultured hair follicles or their cells to induce new hair formation. The process of multiplying hair cells is based on the demonstration that adult dermal papilla cells (DPC) retain the hair inductive potential that they acquired during hair morphogenesis before birth. To harvest FCI, the researchers could isolate hair active cells from scalp biopsies and then grow them in cultures in order to make adequate cells to generate several other follicles from a few.

Following expansion of cells in culture, they implanted those cells into the scalp where they induce the formation of new follicles below the level of skin. They describe a consistent, reliable method in which they can test hair induction. Since the process relies on the ability to retain the potential for hair induction during the expansion of DPC in culture.

They go over a simple graft model that supports hair morphogenesis. In this experiment, they combine dermal cells with embryonic mouse epidermis that provides the keratinocyte (one of the skin cells) component of induced follicles. The grafts are placed under a protective skin flap in the host mouse where the cells will make a skin graft that can produce hair if the dermal cells are hair producing DPC.

By using the system of freshly isolated and cultured mouse embryo dermal cells as well as cultured dermal papilla cells from other species we can make new hair that could be used of hair restoration in people with baldness.

The great thing about this process was that the induced hairs were aesthetically indistinguishable from those of the epidermal donor in length, thickness, and pigmentation. The investigators stated that the newly formed hairs were considered normal and could resemble a complete natural hair after microscopic examination.

Our hair transplant team at Los Angeles and Orange County hair trnasplant surgery centers of US Hair Restoration will closely follow up with the progress of hair multiplication and cloning techniques. Although the result of the cultured hair on animals has been released before, the current published article is very interesting and can elucidates more on the characteristics of multiplied and newly formed hair quality during the process of hair multiplication so called hair cloning. It seems like we still have a long way to go until we can practically use hair multiplication techniques in restoring human hair. The good thing is that it cannot be kept a secret when hair multiplication technology is available.

Hair Stem Cell – hair cloning and multiplication

There is a lot going on in the world of hair restoration surgery and hair loss treatment. There is a recnet post on the hair restoration blog of Dr. Mohebi on hair stem cell research and the future of hair restoration with hair clonning and hair multiplication.

Hair restoration multiplied hair by transplantation of hair follicle stem cells and dermal papilla cells (the cells of the bottom of hair follicles) in alginate gels (media used for cell transplantation).

There is a new article on hair stem cell and hair restoration published by a group of scientists at regeneration lab of tissue engineering, Department of Bioscience of life science in Northwest University of China authored this article. They proposed a system to use the two important hair stem cells to form mature hair in people with hair loss.

These scientists discusss the discovery of hair follicle stem cells (FSC) brings gospel to the affected individual of hair loss because of its capacity of generating new hair when they interact with mesenchymal dermal papilla cells or DPC.

Combination of the effects from the abovementioned two cells are known as the necessary cells for formation of new hair. Since both FSC and DPC have strong proliferative capacity and the patient’s own cells could be expanded considerably in vitro, the authors summarized that the microencapsulation of the two kinds of cells in alginate gels could be implanted into the bald scalp of the patient since alginate gels is effective in cell transplantation. They concluded that the strategy may provide a more convenient and valid alternative to hair loss if the hypothesis proved to be practical.

Dr. Parsa Mohebi at Los Angeles hair transplant office of US Hair Restoration, follows the most recent findings on the field hair hair stem cell research or hair multiplication also known as hair cloning. The above theory sounds logical and seems to be simple. However, until it is experimented in the lab and then on life creatures we cannot know how practical it may be. It seems like the race to use hair stem cell for the treatment of men hair loss is started.
